If you’re driving a car or van built in the last few years, the chances are that it’ll be fitted with one or more Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS). These intelligent systems use a combination of cameras, sensors, and radars to monitor you, your car, and your environment. Working in tandem with you as a driver, ADAS can help you to reduce the risk of human error and avoid a collision.
The number of systems fitted to a car and their relative level of ability varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Once the preserve of luxury cars and the top trim levels of more mainstream models, features such as blindspot monitoring, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and radar-guided cruise control can now be commonly found on cars of all price points.
What is ADAS calibration?
It can be easy to take ADAS for granted, especially when you aren’t consciously using its full capabilities on a day-to-day basis. However, like any other part of a car or van, ADAS functions need routine maintenance to ensure they are working effectively.
Over time, the multitude of cameras and sensors can become misaligned, impacting their ability to make critical judgements. To solve the problem, garages like XL Motors are equipped with the necessary tools and training required to provide a full ADAS calibration.
Do I need an ADAS calibration?
At XL Motors, our technicians are fully trained to perform a complete calibration of your vehicle’s ADAS system. Each manufacturer recommends its own guidance on when to perform a calibration, but if you are unsure, a member of our team will be more than happy to help you.
If you have recently had a repair made to the bodywork, windscreen or suspension and steering components of your vehicle, it will require a calibration if ADAS is fitted. At XL Motors, we will always perform a full calibration if we conduct an ADAS-affected repair.
