Brakes
Does your brake pedal feels spongy, or is taking longer than normal to slow down, then you should get your brakes checked immediately.
Batteries
Like any battery that are regular used they begin to show signs of wear and reduced efficiency. When this happens, you’ll need to look at replacing the battery.
Service
Most cars need to be serviced once a year or every 9,000 miles, for example, at 20,000 miles you may need to have spark plugs replaced, or at 40,000 miles your fuel filter may need to be checked.
Mechanical Repairs
XL Motors is equipped with the latest diagnostic tools, meaning it’s possible for our technicians to identify technical and mechanical problems for all major makes and models.
Oil
To check your oil level, you’ll need to open the bonnet. Look out for the oil can symbol and remove the dipstick. Use a cloth to wipe off any oil. Then replace the dipstick, and remove again. If your oil level is correct, the oil on the dipstick should be between the maximum and minimum marks. In general, we would advise customers to visit us for a service every year, or approximately every 9,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Air Condition
Try to use your air conditioning system regularly, at least every couple of weeks. This keeps the system fresh and helps to filter out impurities in the air.
Tyres
Your tyres are the only bond between your car and the road, making them an important feature when it comes to safety. Tyres help provide grip in wet and icy conditions and can also affect your handling in corners, as well as braking.
MOT
Once your car is more than 3 years old, you need to have a MOT, it’s the law. The annual test makes sure that your car is road worthy, checking it meets safety and environmental standards. When you bring your car to XL Motors for its MOT, you can have confidence that it’s in the hands of a DVSA accredited MOT tester.
If your vehicle fails the MOT test, but we’re able to carry out any repairs on site, we’ll carry out a re-test free of charge.
Suspension
Shock absorbers that are heavily worn can put additional pressure on your tyres which can in turn cause them to wear prematurely. If you notice that your tyres have worn down very quickly, ask a trained technician to check your shock absorbers.
Visibility
Wiper blades should be changed once a year, but don’t forget your rear wiper blade too.
We would recommend that you should regularly check that all your light are working correctly. Try each light one by one and make sure you check that each is fully illuminated and remains on for a couple of minutes.
Timing Belts
It’s not worth the risk of waiting to replace your timing belt. It can appear to be in good condition but break without warning. It’s best to replace it in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations
Exhaust
If you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, one of the components of your exhaust system could have come loose causing a leak. Exhaust fumes are toxic, so it’s important that you get this checked urgently by a trained professional.
Wheel Alignment
Tracking, is the process of ensuring your vehicle’s wheels are set to the optimum position, as per the car manufacturer’s specifications. Incorrect alignment can result in rapid irregular tyre wear and can even affect the handling and safety of the vehicle.
